You know, I read somewhere, a long time ago, and I can't remember where,
that Albert Einstein, when he was still a small child, poured milk all
over the kitchen floor. And his mother, instead of getting mad at him, said
something like: "Oh dear. Well, now that you've made the mess, we might as
well have fun in it!" And she went to get his rubber boots, and they spent most
of the morning splashing around in the puddle of milk in the kitchen.
So when I came down from upstairs (where I had been busy doing the laundry
and folding clothes, wasting time on facebook), and found these two, in the middle of a
heap of cornstarch, I kind of started laughing, and well, we ended up having a
I'm not saying I'm Albert Einstein's mom.
best morning ever.
the laundry can wait.

We are getting ready for Juhannus, the Finnish summer solstice celebration.
Making pies and salads and Karelian pastries... playing hide-and-seek in the closet....
a quick lunch... taking an afternoon nap... a traditional Finnish sauna (although at home,
not in the woods)...
... and a party or two in the evening!

It was raining outside, so we decided to throw an impromptu un-birthday party.
There is nothing that will make Fe as happy as baking a cake, putting on her
favorite dress, and blowing out candles! And eating that cake. And singing.
"Happy daa-ay, happy daa-ay, happy daay-ay to us!"
(The cake had *store-bought rhubarb filling and *self-made meringue frosting.
Thank you Martha for the idea.)
Happy Unbirthday to you, too!

We spent yesterday's evening at Linnanmäki, Helsinki's amusement park. My memory
card was full, so I took only a few pics of the kids, but I got some paparazzi shots of
the newlywed lovebirds with whom we went.
Too cute those two.
And Sisie couldn't get on any of the rides. It's tough to be small sometimes.
Father's Day breakfast.

The kids have been doodling on the blackboard wall, and I have been doodling
on cheap china. So much fun. I need to do it more. More patiently.
That strange animal thing on the blackboard is a chicklet that Fe drew called "Flygg."
It inspires me immensely. I don't have the heart to wipe it off.
Also: Yes! Yes to life, and lists, and getting things done. And friends, too.
Happy weekend (again).
PS I hear it's Father's Day in most countries that I know (not here, though). Still:
Happy Father's Day.

Fe is at her Oma's for the weekend, so we are spending some time with just Sisi.
It's strangely quiet all of a sudden. I miss her already! But it's nice to get to focus
on Sisi for a while, to play tickle games and peekaboo, and hide-and-seek,
with just her.
My my, how does time fly. She is such a big girl already. A big girl, strong-willed,
with quite the temper (but the best of hearts)!
... this store, oh my oh my, I want it all. (via snygg)
... I'm planning a summer party, and I'll make these.
... I have a thing for this wallpaper.
... this T-shirt made me smile.
... and this one, to DIY.
... I want to vacation in this house.
... with this patio.
... on this island.

So, this is it, our blackboard wall. Needless to say, we love it.
I love it, the kids love it, the husband LOVES it, too (yay!), although he
wasn't so sure when he saw me starting the project. It already feels
like it has been part of our family forever. I can't believe it's taken me
this long to convince J. (But oh right, I didn't! I just painted it.
Sometimes that's what it takes.)
Well, I see a lot of fun ahead.
I reiterate my former point: Everybody needs a clown wig.
But also: Everybody needs a blackboard wall.
(And now I need to go before they take apart the house. You cannot believe
what these two have been up to lately.)
