Color baths

Our cranky day cure/wild craziness overload neutralizer/"boredoom booster": Color baths!

All you need is a bathtub, water, and various flasks of food coloring. Seeing how the water changes color from blue to green, or from red to orange, etc is a big hit with the 3-year old. She usually thinks she is a mermaid bathing in "magic water"...

What's an easy activity you do with your kids on a cranky day? (I need more tips, we've been having a lot of them lately.)

Happy Monday!

Kinderzimmer II

So, I decided to move the bench to the wall. And I changed the fabric. I think I like this one, the flowery, more than the polka dot one. Opinions?

Oh, and I'm so excited about Mae's birdies finally finding their way into our home the other day. I'm charmed.

Little Sisie is sick again, poor little one. Which means we've been indoors, and there has been more Fé art. A bee robot for cousin Lukas, and a picture of great-grandpa and herself and the laptop he sent her for Christmas for Opa Kalla. I love that there are yellow suns in all the pictures.

I want to see smiling yellow suns everywhere, too.

Thank you, Tracey. I'm so happy, too!
Thank you, Deborah. Your words made me smile.

Edit: Oh, and I guess I'm supposed to say seven random things about me:

1. My anime crush is Wizard Howl.
2. My literature crush is Edward Cullen.
3. Yes, I am aware of how completely embarrassing that is, thank you.
4. I cannot start my day properly without a cup of Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger, with a spoonful of honey, please.
5. I want to travel to Japan very badly.
6. My husband and I started dating when we were both wet in a fountain.
7. I need a maid.

I adore Fe's animals. They are so cool.

I used a porcelain marker and tracing paper... and now her cool animals are on my cups. I like!

(Papa is the lion. He sleeps a lot, eats too much, and gets stomach aches. Fe is the giraffe who eats leaves and has a friend, elephant-dragon-mouse, Sisie. The elephant is Oma. I am a mouse who is afraid of scary animals. Not sure what to make of that.)

Lilla a did something similar a while ago using color-deko foil

Unfinished.

Unfinished(s) from around our home. Things I've been meaning to get to for a long (or short time) and haven't. Organizing memories, hanging up photos and prints (properly). Fixing the paper garland. Hiding all those plasticky princess dresses. Hanging the mobile.

That collection of old film photographs I inherited from my father.

That Polaroid is of my mother and me on the day of my birth. Newborn me, my life yet to live. Wonderfully strange.

Thinking of it, maybe I like those pictures taped to the wall like that, instead of in fancy frames. Memories are fleeting, not fixed, after all.

White.

The dress at the top left is my great-aunt's Mia's dress. She wore it, danced in it, when she was young, in the 50s/60s. It's a lovely, intricate knit dress, with crocheted straps. She gave it to me, on a sunny day in my grandfather Friedl's front-yard, when I was 16 years old. It's one of my most-prized processions. It's come with me, wherever I've lived. I've only worn it a couple of times, however. I'm thinking of changing that.

It's Winter Colours Week over on Poppytalk. You can see the pool here.

Smiling in the rain...

Dreaming at nights of lions the size of mice, with wings... (flying across the earth in search of a long-lost home...)

Enjoying all the simple things...

...I have much still to learn from her.

It's nowhere near finished yet, but I thought I'd share some pictures of the Miss's new room. She loves it (which is the main thing)! I'll upload more in the next few weeks, as I am going along.

Here is a view into her old room. (Yes, I painted the blue bed white. Which was a pain!)

Those very cool ABC cards are by heli.

Yes, this is how I glammed up my life today. With one sad plastic flower, and a dress that is torn at its sleeve (it does, however, have tulle.) (I did try to go shopping this morning. Nothing.)

A blank diary planner.
