Gift for Mummi

It was Mummi's (Fe's grandma's) birthday, and this was her gift. A bunch of Fe's drawings on china.
I still think it's the easiest thing in the world to do. (Are you getting tired of seeing these on my blog yet?)

All you need is a porcelain marker, cheap china from IKEA, your child's drawings, and transfer paper.

Btw, that first plate is a family portrait (from left to right: Fe, Sisi, Dad, me, her uncle, her two aunts, and Mummi).
It has got to be the coolest family portrait of this family, ever.

Happy Unbirthday

It was raining outside, so we decided to throw an impromptu un-birthday party.
There is nothing that will make Fe as happy as baking a cake, putting on her
favorite dress, and blowing out candles! And eating that cake. And singing.

"Happy daa-ay, happy daa-ay, happy daay-ay to us!"

(The cake had *store-bought rhubarb filling and *self-made meringue frosting.

Kinderzimmer IV

Nicole got the room for little Annabelle finished, and it totally inspired me to work on Fé's (now that the loft got approved and we've been able to get rid of most of the boxes that have been taking up all of our space). Here are a few glimpses. It's still not finished (I need that granny square rug, thanks for agreeing.). And I want to paint a rainbow on the wall, above the bed, among other things (but the husband still needs some convincing... hmm. Sometimes men should not get to have a say, hehe.) I also need to find a place to hang the huge pink canvas we painted together a while ago... decisions, decisions.

The Party.

Some birthday party pics. I didn't take many, because I had too much fun playing. And the food was eaten before I had a decent chance to photograph it. That's how it should be, right?

(Fe and I made all of the food and the decorations together. The rainbow cake, which was a huge hit with the 4-year old crowd btw, and the gingerbread cookies. The "angry-Pippi" invitations (which we never sent because I'm unorganized like that), the gigantic socks that hung over the entry door.)

Upon entering, the kids were welcomed aboard the Hoppetossa, Efraim's Longstocking's pirate ship. We went on a treasure hunt to Taka-Tuka land (the South Seas) and had to watch out for the mad pirate (= dad). The kids found sockerdricka (lemonade that grows in Pippi's backyard tree) and Negerkuesse (a politically incorrect brand-name for chocolate marshmallows). We had a spaghetti beard competition. Well, we tried to. The only child willing to do it was Fe. The others thought it was "disgusting." Haha. I then tried to get them to jump from furniture, but they all stared up at me in horror, unsure whether I was crazy or not. Haha, again. Such well raised kids! Well, scrubbing the floors on scrubbies was more successful. (Pippi cleans her house like that). We drew birthday pictures on a big piece of chalkboard for Fe. The rest of the time was spent eating and playing with Legos (yes, Legos. I think they may have been too young for a themed party, after all.)

Anyway, we had a lot of fun. Fe sure did. And now she is 4 years old and I'm trying to figure out where all that time has gone.

... wasn't very cooperative when I tried to take these pictures. But what Pippi Longstocking in her right mind would be. :)

It was my birthday last week. I turned 28. You know, the older you get, the less special you think the day is and deserves to be... and the less you start expecting in terms of gifts and parties and things... and the more you secretly hope that maybe, it will be special in some way anyway... and then, bam, wonderful people make it very special, by caring. Thank you, family, for making me feel loved.

Fe and Papa made a great poster. Another family portrait, along with all the things Fe would like to give me... ice-cream, a flower, the sun, a big house with lots of windows... and many yellow lamps (ha, she knows me well! I've been dreaming about this).

Sisie destroyed a toilet paper role, especially for me! And my J (who knows I'm partial to nice wrapping) wrapped my gift in awesome by simply drawing on the ribbon. Creative he is.

We painted snow. And the floor tiles. Unintentionally.

And then I got the loveliest of surprises by sweet Vi of the ever-so-stylish snygg, who sent me the most endearing happy magnets for our fridge. I had left a comment on her blog, a long time ago, telling her I loved them. And she remembered! I am so happy! What a lovely surprise! And she wrote a sweet note on lovely lovely paper, too. Thank you, danke, tack så mycket!!! You made me smile in a big way! :):):)

And so it is that I really enjoyed my birthday this year. There was no big party, but those I loved were there (and chocolate), and that's all that matters.
